About Dr Yaji
A surgical oncologist focused on complex abdominal and peritoneal cancers
A surgical oncologist is a surgeon trained specifically to operate on cancer, and to plan that surgery with medical and radiation oncologists. Dr Prabhat Yaji completed his MCh in Surgical Oncology at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and now practises full-time at ARC Cancer Hospital on Hosur Main Road.
His work covers breast, colorectal, thyroid, gynaecological, stomach, head and neck and other cancers, with a special focus on cancers that spread to the lining of the abdomen. For these, he assesses whether cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC could help, and when they would not.
His approach in three words
Precision. The right operation, done carefully, with the right approach for the tumour: open, laparoscopic or robotic.
Evidence. Decisions based on staging, pathology and team discussion, not on one favourite technique.
Clarity. Honest talk about benefits, limits, risks and recovery, so you decide with full understanding.
Focused practice
Peritoneal surface malignancy, CRS and HIPEC
Peritoneal cancers affect the lining of the abdomen, either starting there or spreading from cancers of the appendix, colon, stomach or ovary. Treating them takes careful selection, detailed planning and specialised surgery.
Dr Yaji assesses the extent and biology of the disease, whether complete cytoreduction is possible, and which treatment fits each patient. Not every patient is a candidate, and he will tell you honestly if you are not.
- Cytoreductive surgery (CRS)Removing all visible tumour deposits inside the abdomen.
- HIPECHeated chemotherapy delivered into the abdomen during the same operation.
- PIPACA newer, keyhole approach for selected patients who cannot have complete surgery.

A balanced view
What you can expect from us, and what we will not promise
Cancer care is full of big promises. Dr Yaji’s practice is built on honest ones.
No guarantees. Every cancer is different. You will hear the realistic benefits and the risks, not a promised outcome.
Surgery only when it helps. Not every patient needs an operation, and not every patient suits CRS-HIPEC. You will be told when surgery is not the right step.
Technique serves the goal. Robotic surgery is not better in every case. The approach is chosen for complete, safe removal, not the size of the cut.
Decisions you understand. Every recommendation comes with the reason behind it, so you and your family can decide with confidence.

FAQs
Questions patients ask
What does a surgical oncologist do?
A surgical oncologist is a surgeon trained specifically to operate on cancer. They help with diagnosis and staging, perform the operation, and plan treatment together with medical and radiation oncologists.
When should I see a surgical oncologist?
Usually when a scan or biopsy has shown a growth that may be cancer, when cancer has been diagnosed and surgery is being considered, or when you want a second opinion on a surgery plan.
Where does Dr Prabhat Yaji consult?
He practises full-time at ARC Cancer Hospital (Arion Radiotherapy and Oncology Centre), 210, Hombegowda Nagar, Hosur Main Road, Wilson Garden, Bengaluru 560029.
